A major earthquake has hit near the Mexico-Guatemala border. RELATED: Indonesia Hit by a Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake A strong 6.9-magnitude tremor struck eight kilometers southwest of Tajumulco, Guatemala – a small town near the Mexico-Guatemala border. The earthquake struck after a series of smaller quakes hit the Pacific coast off Chiapas. The epicenter of the earthquake was 98 kilometers beneath the surface. At least one person was reported hurt, but there have been no reported fatalities. Guatemala’s President Jimmy Morales tweeted that everyone should ‘stay calm and be alert to possible aftershocks’. The Latin American country is susceptible to earthquakes because it intersects two tectonic plates.
